LPG

What is LPG?

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is primarily composed of propane and butanes, either separately or in various combinations. It is produced as a by-product of crude oil production (Associated Gas) and natural gas production (Non-Associated Gas). Additionally, LPG is obtained as a by-product of the refinery process and is mainly transported in pressurized vessels.

Both Associated and Non-Associated LPG, along with Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs), are transported in large quantities via pipelines where possible, such as in the US. They are also transported in refrigerated Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs), for example, from the US Gulf Coast to Japan. Apart from being a key component in the petrochemical industry, LPG is widely used as a convenient fuel for domestic purposes worldwide. In the northern hemisphere, it is used for home heating, while in Africa, it is commonly used as a cooking gas. Moreover, in certain markets, LPG is utilized as a vehicle fuel, known as Autogas.
