According to the BP Energy Outlook, it's projected that India's energy consumption will increase by about 4.2% annually until the year 2035.
India ranks as the third-largest consumer of oil globally and the second-largest in Asia, following China and the USA.
By 2035, most research indicates that India's energy consumption will surpass that of all other major economies, putting it in the top spot.
Based on the latest data and research by ET Bureau in 2017, it's projected that India's use of non-renewable energy sources will increase significantly. Gas consumption is expected to surge by 162%, with oil following closely behind at 121%, and coal at 105%.
India Pollution Problem
Air pollution is a big problem in India, mainly because of things like burning fuelwood, emissions from vehicles, fuel being mixed with other substances, and all the traffic jams (according to a report from the World Bank).
Even though the amount of greenhouse gases emitted per person is relatively low overall, India still ranks as the third-largest emitter after China and the USA.
According to a study by the World Health Organization (WHO), 13 out of the 20 most polluted cities are located in India.
